Bibigo

Just that day, morr and I decided to go to City Hall to get some stuff. And we have been wanting to try this place since the last we went but it was so crowded. Here we are!

Bibigo
252 North Bridge Road
#B1-74 Raffles City Shopping Centre

To be honest, I think there have been reviews that this is like a fusion korean place where you don't really get authentic korean food. But seriously, who cares? To me, as long as the food tastes good and not weird, I'm game.

And so morr had the chicken kimchi fried rice bansang which looks really good alongside with the banchan like nicely layered kimchi, long beans and omelette. Kudos to this! Healthy lunch but very filling.

According to Wikipedia, bansang is a basic table setting which usually consists of bap (cooked rice), tang (soup) that goes with gochujang (chilli paste) or ganjang (soy sauce) and kimchi.

As for me, I took the choice set where I get to choose the bansang from the type of bap to the meat, type of vegetables.

Overall, although it may be a tad pricey compared to the cheaper priced korean food you see in foodcourts, but hey! this is a korean place and not those in foodcourts. It's worth your calories and besides with all the greens, you will get a balanced meal.

I'll be back!!

Ban Leong Wah Hoe Seafood

This is another one of my backposts. I remember we went to Ban Leong this time with our family. The parking there is definitely by chance and when I say this, I do mean you need to have time to find for parking. If not, just park further and walk to Ban Leong.

Ban Leong Wah Hoe Seafood
122 Casuarina Road
Singapore

In case you are wondering where it is, it is along Upper Thomson Road where Casuarina Curry is. Anyhow, let's get to the food.

Prawn paste chicken or Ha Cheong Kai (in cantonese)
The prawn paste chicken is good especially when it's hot and fresh from the kitchen :)

steamed garlic prawns
Next we have the steamed garlic prawns which were really good. The presentation did make me think of the Little Mermaid where all the sea creatures were singing and dancing with Ariel. Erm, other than the fact that we are not just 'watching' them now but we are also walloping them into our tummies. hehehe

Stir fried vegetables with garlic

I was a tad too late for the picture as you can see from the half eaten vegetables. It was piping hot when it arrived at our table so hence, the 'vicious attack'.

Black pepper crab
Sorry for the blur image taken of the black pepper crab. This is as good as it gets. The crab is fresh and nope, the flesh doesn't stick to its shell. I had that kind of experience in another place so it kinda suck when I thought about it. Shan't name the place here till I go there and review the crabs once more. Provided I can get over that incident.

Chilli crab

Do not be fooled. The chilli crab hasn't been touched for a reason. For the strangest reasons, the family usually 'attack' the chilli crab last as it has to be gotten down with the fingers, licking of the chilli gravy etc.

Yes enough said about the food. Ban Leong is a place with fresh seafood that you have bring your whole family there. No reservations so it's a first come first served kind of place. Try to go earlier than 7pm so that the crowd will probably be still on their way ;)

Have your cake and eat it

Yes this is one of my backposts. It's been a while since I last went to Flor Patisserie. The last I went, I just simply couldn't resist the cakes. Mama mia!!

Flor Patisserie
#01-01, 2 Duxton Hill
Singapore 089588
Phone:  6223 8628
Monday to Saturday: 11am- 7pm
Sunday (Public Holidays):  11am- 6pm
Flor Patisserie

When I went there, I literally went to the counter. Ok I want this, this, that and that. Please wrap it up for me. I'm so going home to savour all the beauties, with Mr G of course. Did I mention that beside being a curry fanatic, Mr G is a dessert lover too? In fact, he loves his desserts alot more than me.

Let's see what beauties do we have here.

Napoleon
The Napoleon wouldn't really be deemed a cake in its real sense as it has a whole lot more of puff pastry rather than cake. But trust me, if you are a sucker for puff pastry like me or at least a person who loves the crumbly buttery but yet light bits, you will be delighted! This is absolutely what I love about the Mille Feuille. The mixture of cake between cream and puff pastry makes it light yet yummilicious. A die die must try (in my honest opinion) which deserves the earned 'best seller' tag in the shop.

Berry Berries

Berry Berries is a good choice for those people who love light cakes that will give you the smile because they are so light and so good. This is Chef Yamashita's signature strawberry shortcake that consists of very soft spongecake, fresh strawberries and of course, cream.

Strawberry souffle

Having eaten the Berry Berries, the strawberry souffle now seem passe. So my take is, take either one - Berry Berries or Strawberry souffle.

Cacao Royal
The Cacao Royal has dark chocolate sponge that has alternate layers of chocolate ganache, covered with chocolate glaze and mixed fruits. Not a wow wow for me.

Having tried all these, I decided to order a birthday cake for LT to surprise her. Boy, the cake looks fantastic in its totality. She adores the strawberry souffle :)

Dulcet & Studio

We were figuring out where to eat for dinner. It's been a long time since we last gathered. The last I can remember was in December last year, probably for Christmas after a year's of hard work.

This time I stumbled upon Dulcet & Studio - a lifestyle cafe where one can unwind, relax, have a cuppa and of cos, sweets. Incidentally, the owner of Dulcet & Studio also owns Tampopo Deli, Tarafuku and Tampopo Grand. Despite this, you do get hints of Japanese here and there in the taste of the food here as well as the inspirational concept of European cuisine and to me, it's a tad more French in its taste but yet European chic.

Enough said, here's the address

Dulcet & Studio
#01-41/42 Liang Court
177 River Valley Road
Singapore 179030
Tel: 6338 9248
Opening hours: 10am to 10pm daily

I love the chic and stylish design of their brand and it's just so Dulcet & Studio :) When you upgrade your set with a soup and bread, this is what you get. Their soup is unlike your usual creamy mushroom soup or cream of chicken soup.

Of course, you need to know what's their signatures right?

Do you see the picture at the top? That's their famous black pig fettucine. If you do know me, I'm definitely an spaghetti aglio person and nothing else. But of course since we are there, I just needed to 'verify' how good is their famous fettucine. YES, you do need to try it. It absolutely made me forget about the tomato base and the fettucine does taste oddly fresh. The black pork sure does taste different - fresh and so good.

However, I couldn't say the same for the squid ink pasta. To me, the sight of the 'little balls' in the pasta does look abit distasteful. For me, the squid ink pasta just don't gel - my personal preference.

But when you dig into their chicken confit, it tastes so moist and soft. The sauce that comes along seriously looks basil but yet it tastes like the chilli that you get from your usual chicken rice stall. When you dip it, it goes very well. I like the way the chef puts his heart to cooking this.

Have you been reading and reading and waiting for this? Yes, me too. It's their desserts that draw me to want to go there :)

You didn't get a clear vision? Look again.

You saw the 'unsung hero'? Yes their strawberry chiffon cake - refreshingly light and we all kept nodding our heads in unison when we tasted it. A must try!

I do realised my tastebuds do have an inclination towards custard so when I saw their cream puff and mille feille, I was definitely excited! Both of them are good to me, especially the mille with its awesome 'crispy' layers.

As for their tea light cakes with cream oozing out just like my earlier post of hokkaido chiffon cake, I would say to you, don't waste your calories on it. Not worth the count.

Brussel Sprouts

Actually how many of you do eat mussels? Every once in a while, I will crave or rather, think about the mussels I used to have in Brugges, a small place in Brussels. I still remember that very day where it was somewhat cold and I had a pot of mussels in the best celery butter gravy with loads of chips and some lager - see pictures below.

my awesome pot of mussels

bowl of chips and lager YUMS

I've decided that if I were able to find something similar as to what I found in Brugges, I'll die a happy man or woman. ok, make it a woman then :D

So I found this place near Mohamed Sultan Road known as Brussel Sprouts. It was a good thing none of the food offered in its menu is that of the actual brussel sprouts because it would be a sure way to not get me in there in the first place. YUCKS brussel sprouts, ok it was just a personal dislike for it.

some bread to go along with the mussels which was kinda unnecessary (in my opinion)

salad with parma ham

For the oddest reasons, I do think that honeydew with parma ham is still the best combination. All else, it just feels weird despite the savoury taste of the ham and the fresh taste of the greens.

my pot of garlicky butter mussels

weeny bowl of chips :(

clams (didn't really like this)

the case of our wrongly ordered pork

We were supposed to have this brilliantly roasted pork but ordered the wrong dish till we saw it. Yes too late. Morale of this story is, if you are unsure, always ask. It will never fail. So in the end, we had to finish this too.

You are smart. We were too greedy ordering so much food so we ended up not finishing alot of the food.

I feel, somehow the taste that I had in Brugges was just missing. And the quest continues....

Tom Yum Kungfu

Just in case you were like me when you first heard of this place, I went like, HUH? tom yam kungfu?! what is this? And then I did a quick google on hungrygowhere.

It's along Boat Quay or to be more accurate, Circular Road. In fact, you will just find it amidst many many shophouses.

When we got there, we realised it was a small cozy place for many friends to gather and have fun. After all, they did say, it's always the company that makes the place isn't it? So here it is.

love the interior cozy ambience

Tom Yum Goong

lemongrass chicken

Thai fried sweet and sour fish

Stir fried kangkong or morning glory (as the Thai call it)

It was a nice place with plenty of food and of course, their famous steamboat which we didn't try. I will want to come back here again, take more pics (of cos) with their nostalgic glass bottles of soya bean milk, metal mugs, etc.

Tom Yum Kungfu, please wait for me!! Till then.

Charly T's

Mr G and I have been pretty curious about Charly T each time we drive past it. If you are wondering where Charly T is, you would notice it if you walk along the way to The Cathay. Yes it's just at the groundfloor before The Cathay. Of course assuming if you are walking from Plaza Singapura.

Anyhow, once we saw a deal coupon on those deal websites from Charly T and bought it so thought why not?

seasoned herb fries (not too bad)

seasoned chicken with sides and sauces

Somehow this reminds me of Kenny Rogers. A place where many of you would have remembered but I have to admit this is a tad better than Kenny Rogers. Pricewise, it is pretty similar to Kenny Rogers too.

chicken wrap with mashed potato (ok I would say but it won't make you think about it)

Of course we will order pork (with Mr G around haha)

chocolate chip waffles

To me, this was what I was looking forward to all night. Chocolate chip waffles!! When I saw the menu, I was like, chocolate chip waffles? as in they made chocolate chip with it? KEWL. Well, after trying, I would say it was ok but I wouldn't specifically think of this place just for this. sorry but it's true.

Chocolate chip ice cream (with gnawed marks from my fork =S)

Well, this is a place where I would say if you have a nice ambience, visit it but only if it's your first. I wouldn't really want to go all the way out just to come here. Definitely more places will make your tastebuds want to go back but not here.

BFF lazy day out (make it a hot one too)

BFF and I decided to have our monthly girls' day out as a way of keeping ourselves sane (from the hectic work) and hey, we do need to have an excuse too isn't it? heheh

We decided to check out the much written-about Food for Thought. We thought that probably going to the one at Queen Street would seem quieter or at least, less crowded. Boy were we wrong.

Food for Thought at Queen Street (near Bras Basah MRT)

Food for Thought
8 Queen Street
Singapore

Opening Hours: Mon - Sat (9am  to 10pm)

Like the clean but yet simple decor

My HUMONGOUS iced mocha

We were famished so plunged in for the Full Works (check out for the galore of food)

Pancakes with mixed berries

Although F.O.T.'s desserts like their red velvet cake were a hit amongst its customers, we reckon that we would like to check out another place that has been much talked about by bloggers as one that has nice cupcakes.

The odd thing is, I never or will never understand how people can get so excited over cupcakes since to me, it's always seem to be about the icing. The worst part is, I'm never into the icing mainly due to its usually overly sweet taste. To me, that kills the flavour of the basic cupcake. Yeah, call me an old skool gal.

Well, BFF says we should check out this new cupcake place in Holland Village and review it for ourselves ;) What a perfect excuse! haha

Plain Vanilla Bakery
34A Lorong Mambong
Holland Village
Singapore 277691

Do not get the misconception that it is a bakery cum cafe. Literally, it is a bakery or small setup where you can see the bakers baking as well as icing the cupcakes. Despite all of that, do not let that deter you into getting a few of their yummy cupcakes.

Love their simple logo on the box NICE

A few of the cupcakes there

Before we came, we heard a lot about their salted caramel cupcake as their must-try. On the left, it is their chocolate hazelnut flavour and on the right, it's customers' favourite salted caramel.

On a whole, I love their basic cupcakes because of the simple fact that it remains moist as well as its soft texture. That itself is good enough to lure me to eat it and personally, I would grade it a texture better than Twelve cupcakes. You've got to taste it to know why. What I don't like is its grainy texture for its cream. Well, it could just be me and the cream but I've always thought buttercreams do go well better with finer textured sugar that simply will blend well. Anyhow, do try them.

Lunch at Yomenya Goemon

It's lunch time and it's time for some Japanese fusion food with some pasta.

Around the area where I work, there's this nice and not too pricey Japanese restaurant serving up set meals where you get a cuppa soup, salad from the salad bar and your choice of pasta. For S$14, I would say it's pretty worth.

Hence, the 3 of us went to check it out!!

cuppa soup and my choice of salad ingredients from the salad bar

scallop pasta

cheese pasta with sunnyside egg YUMS

My squid ink pasta with squid rings (obviously :P)

Do check out Yomenya Goemon when you have the chance!
